(Status June 2022. The Petition remains active for 2022!)
Millionaires demand higher taxation of millionaires assets
COVID-19 increases inequality, intensifies health risks, reduces educational opportunities of the poor, while some of the wealthy and some of the companies are counted among the winner of the crises and got even more rich during the crises. Since decades inequality grows in Germany and globally. Concentration of power in terms of capital and influence of a few to such an extent that it threatens democracy contrasts to the material insecurity of the many.
According to estimations one percent of the German population holds 35% of all assets while 40% have no savings at all.
We are the wealthy and we plead for higher taxation of capital to provide chances, participation and investments in the future for all. No matter if we became wealthy by work, inheritance, entrepreneurship or capital investement, we appeal for reforms in five sectors:
-
Reintroduction of a wealth tax for assets worth millions and billions
-
Limitation of exemptions for business assets and other special regulations for the inheritance tax and accessions tax
-
Progressive tax rates instead of a standard rates on the tax on distributions
-
A proberty levy on assets worth millions and billions if governmental tasks can not be financed due to the brake on debts
-
Stricter rules against tax avoidance and tax evasion and better financial and personnel recources for tax authorities
Not only a majority of the population in Germany speaks out on reforms to wealth taxation according to surveys. International organizations such as the OECD, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are also calling for reforms to combat global inequality and deal with the consequences of the Corona crisis.
We are convinced that improving tax justice is the way forward for a society guided by the values of common good, equal opportunity and cohesion. Those who own a lot can make a greater contribution to addressing the major challenges of our time: Climate change, digitalization, demographic change, housing shortages, educational equity and promoting effective wealth creation for all.
The upcoming elections offer a unique opportunity to strengthen the orientation of wealth towards the common good as defined by the German Constitution. Please support this appeal so that our demands carry more weight. Whether wealthy or otherwise supportive:
