FAQs

  • Why are you talking about tax privileges?
The wealthy, and particularly the super-rich, enjoy a number of tax exemptions from taxation that are not available to the non-wealthy. For example, the super-rich hardly pay any inheritance tax due to exceptions to the inheritance of business assets. These are tax privileges that only certain groups of people are entitled to. See also these Info page of our alliance "Overturn tax privileges".
  • What is the goal of taxmenow?
Our members do both. But above all, we want to raise the question of democracy and power. Who gets to decide what is important and good for society? Are the wealthy the ones who decide, or is it everyone who helps shape society in a democratic and transparent process, for example through elections? We are interested in a discussion about the structural problems. We find it problematic when the financing and shaping of the community is dependent on the goodwill and common interest of the wealthy. In addition, donations from the wealthy often serve to distract from the underlying problem that some have so much and others have so little. Therefore, to strengthen our democracies, we are calling for us and other wealthy people to be taxed more equally.

  • Why don't you use your wealth independently for projects and organizations and instead leave your money to the state?
We raise the question of democracy and power. Who gets to decide what is important and good for society? Is it the wealthy or is it everyone who helps shape society in a democratic and transparent process, for example through elections? Initiating public debate is an important first step in this process. The members of taxmenow are also involved in charity work, but it should not stop there; society should not have to rely on the goodwill of the wealthy. We can afford fair taxation, we want to make a fair contribution. In the context of a democratic society, this means paying appropriate taxes on wealth of all kinds.
  • Are you in talks with politicians?
If we are approached, we are generally open to talks with politicians from democratic parties in elected positions. However, we see ourselves as party-politically neutral and do not want to be exploited. We therefore do not appear at party events, for example. When we conduct discussions, we want to keep them transparent and provide information about them. See also our guide . In general, however, we see our area of responsibility in public relations and are neither experts nor qualified to provide political advice. If possible, we try to forward corresponding requests for talks to our alliance partners or to attend to them together.
